I danced in bluebonnets + Coffee Invite!

Hi My Golden Friend,

I’m super late getting my email out this week…my kids were in town over the weekend and then I’ve travelled to CO with a friend for a few days. Nothing is on schedule ;)

BUT HEY! I’d love to share a cup of coffee (or iced beverage) with you this month! Several of you asked if I’d consider hosting it during the day, so this time we will give it a try. I have so enjoyed our conversations and encouragement that I want to make it available to those who can’t do evenings.

Time: Thursday, April 30 @ 10 am CT via ZOOM

Last month I mentioned my free ZOOM call several times as a “PS” to my newsletters but I think that was too easy to miss! I will try to make it more prominent, and send better reminders lol.

This past week, I danced in the bluebonnets.

Yesterday, I wore pink glasses and carried a polka-dot bag (a gift from my friend Debbie).

None of it was productive.

None of it checked a box.W

But you see, we don’t outgrow the need for play.

We just get more practiced at ignoring it.

But, joy often hides in the unnecessary.

In the twirl.

In the color.

In the “why not?”

So if you’re feeling behind this week (you’re in good company), consider this your gentle nudge:

Wear the thing.

Carry the playful bag.

Do something that makes no sense… except that it makes you smile.

That counts.

Especially that.

With a little extra sparkle this week,

Rachel

Hi My Golden Friend, Last night, thunderstorms rolled through Texas, offering hours of spectacular lightning shows and much-appreciated rain. My husband and I sipped sweat tea and sat on our front porch while we watched the skies in wonder--listening to the rumbling thunder and feeling the cool outflows of air on our faces. My little cat Olive crawled up onto my lap and watched the exhibition with us, purring contentedly from the safety of our porch. The evening air smelled of damp earth,...

Hi My Golden Friend, This week, my parents are moving to a place where they can receive more care and support than I can give them on my own. I wish I could tell you I feel one clean emotion about this. Instead, I feel sad. Relieved. Grateful. Guilty. Proud. A little brokenhearted. A little lighter. For the past three years, caring for my parents (my mom has dementia) has been woven into nearly every part of my life. There have been beautiful moments, exhausting moments, tender moments, and...

Hi My Golden Friend, There is a kind of courage that rarely gets applauded. It’s not loud. It doesn’t always look victorious. Sometimes it looks like getting out of bed when grief is sitting on your chest. Sometimes it looks like caring for aging parents, loving difficult people, rebuilding after heartbreak, or carrying responsibilities no one else fully sees. Sometimes courage is simply showing up for another ordinary Tuesday when life has already asked far too much of you. Many of you...
